The Gossip...

She was telling him about her friend, again. Though he didn't care, less, had any sympathy towards her, right now, at least. As he knew very well that this was his wife's best friend's very own decision. So she should deal with all the after effect of that action. Not him suffering in the relentless word-to-word recap of her life! And also, for Christ sake this is honeymoon period! Their period! Not any friend's story-telling time. But he knew he can't say that out loud. Sometimes he pretended to ignore it but deep down he knew she was dominant in many ways and most importantly it was her best-friend-forever they were talking about. So he kept his mouth shut and pretended to be engrossed in whatever she was telling him about. And so she kept on telling anyhow. She knew all this from the endless stays and calls from her friend. They used to talk for hours, both their mothers keeping a tantrum of the duration and time.
"Don't know what you two keep on talking about! Never have you shared a single story of your life about me!" She would stomp away saying this, starting giggles from her daughter and at the other end.
"You know she never used to wear a dress twice at parties, but, her closet would be filled up with dozens of clothes simply smashed haphazardly."
He was enthralled at the amount of detail she described each and every scene. But then again she was her best-friend-forever so she must've known these details. This was one of the many things he had fallen in love with her. It was at its best when she made love to him. He never had any complaints there so he didn't interrupt her, even, now.
"She would simply stop wearing one of her dresses because it wasn't of fitting or she was uncomfortable in it. And she never ever had washed clothes, with her hands, her entire life! Don't know how she washes them now! She was telling me the other day that all her clothes had started to rip and tear because of so much sweating! Can you imagine?"
Oh well surely he can imagine the sweating and ripping of clothes, woman! He is a newly-married-blissful husband after all!
"Aren't you listening to what I am saying?"
Oops. Talk about daydreaming. And that too of the person who is sitting right in front of you! He quickly nodded to show his interest.
"So how can she even survive in this scorching heat without AC?"
That was more of a statement rather than a question. According to his best past 8 years judgement, he replied with 'yeah' only.
"You know she had been too bossy with him from the start" - no wonder she's your best best friend - "but now she obeys whatever he orders her to do. Whether he has requested or commanded! Strange? How people change after getting married, no?" Well, to be honest that's totally not strange for him. He reminisced how he used to be a chain smoker and now it had been a month since he was near a cigarette! As if marriage had sucked that addiction right out of him and replaced it with love for his wife. As if it was always waiting for her to mend him completely. He reminded her that very moment. "Nah! That's not the same! Smoking is bad for health you already know that! That's why you gave it up! But changing your entire nature is totally different!" Well that is seriously NOT that different! He remembered how his throat used to ache whenever he thought of quitting smoking for real. How he longed to go to a nearby shop for just a single pack. How he used to stop himself from inhaling when somebody near him was smoking, yet how he wished to inhale it entirely, to exacerbate the scent of fresh Marlboro pack, to feel it rushing inside him and filling up his lungs, to rejoice in it completely. "Mister, you are NOT smoking again, ever! Do you understand me?" It was final. He knew it from the way she had stressed every syllable. "I know that! I'm not an idiot." He was stung by her tone, yet, it gave him goosebumps to know she understood him way too much. "You better not be - Anyways she has even started eating vegetables! Though its more of her love for the food than the post-marital state." She laughed whole-heartedly. Seeing her happy brought a smile to his face too.

"You know she misses everything." Her voice had suddenly gone soft and serious. "She says she misses her family, her friends, her old life." Seeing her fretting over her friend increased his love for her manifolds. "She says its not the same but she has to manage anyhow." She continued with a smile. "She says she's happy."
"Happy? How can she be happy when she misses her past, her lifestyle, everything?" It was the first time he had come up with a question on this topic. And why wouldn't he? Isn't it bizarre for a person to enjoy even when he has no basic necessities of life? Okay fine, maybe not necessities, but when you are living with such luxuries for quite a time, it does tend to be your necessity. He remembered his second-hand car parked in the garage. It had been a year when he had sold his bike and saved up enough to purchase this beauty. Afterwards he couldn't imagine how had he been living his entire life on that two-wheeled vehicle. He chuckled inwardly.

"She says she's with whom she only and truly wanted to be. Seeing him day in day out is the only happiness she ever craved for. He is her source of happiness." She replied with a satisfied smile, looking deep into his eyes. And the way she looked brought much of an understanding to him than the whole gossip.
